Our Philosophy

A child’s path towards a successful adulthood becomes hazardous if that
path is one of trauma, disruption, unpredictability and where change has
always been a negative experience.

Change can be a positive experience, which is a consistent message we
show through our services, by focusing our childcare on effecting
positive change through a consistent, good parenting approach which
creates a safe environment and therapeutic life space.

We understand that the complex level of needs of our young people who
have often experienced high levels of trauma, means that they are often
unable to self regulate their emotions and integration; or their ability to
link different parts of them into a whole relationship, can be very difficult.

We understand that their previous life experiences have influenced their
presentation and this can be an entirely normal reaction to their life
circumstances. We therefore accept without reservation, their current
personality and behaviours as merely a starting point.

We have thought extensively about our approach to therapeutic
childcare and everything we do is informed by a research based
theoretical framework underpinned by a Humanistic Person Centred
approach, in the true psychotherapeutic sense.

We care for our children within a practice framework built around
clinically assessed outcome measures that are inclusive of
counselling/psychotherapy and actively seek to build a true therapeutic
milieu in which our children and practitioners build relationships which
are authentic and congruent.

Our “community of care” framework ensures that young people are
cared for within environments which are founded on principles of a
therapeutic community approach. This helps to support their healing
process by recognising individual needs, offer differing forms and levels
of therapeutic support which are needs based, trauma sensitive and
relationship / attachment focussed.

Our values as an organisation are reflective of those which would be
evident in any safe, healthy and supportive living environment and our
Humanistic BioSocial therapeutic model aims to give our young
people an opportunity to develop healthy attachments as a starting point
for growth and development.
